Lessons Learned #3: Women Snore Too

Get plenty of sleep and remain friends. BRING EAR PLUGS!

Lessons Learned #2: Flat Pillows Suck (Bring Your Own)

Reading travel reviews about flat pillows prompted both of us to carry travel pillows. Yes, I know, it seems like a silly item to lug around but GOOD SLEEP IS VITAL when you are walking miles and miles everyday. And anyway, the pillow rolls up teeny tiny and then with a little shake, it fluffs up to a very comfortable size. (Love the Thermarest brand.)

Lessons Learned #1: Travel Light

I remember years ago traveling with a suitcase the size of a refrigerator and a totally separate bag for all of the shoes. Deb and I discovered the art of traveling light on our first European trip (Rick Steves 21 days, 6 countries). Carrying less is best, and who really cares what you wear on your adventure. This is our third trip and our goal is to carry as little as possible. We each carry one bag that is 9x21x14. Amazingly, you can fit a lot of stuff in this small carry-on bag. So, what items will make the cut...2 pairs of pants (wear one, carry one), 5 shirts, 1 skirt, sweater/jacket, raincoat, socks, underwear, toiletries, two pairs shoes (closed shoes & sandals), trip books, camera, and last but important, a travel pillow (more about that later).
